Selected Scenes From Betty and Bobby Draper’s Off-Camera Relationship, Circa Season 4
A new actor will assume the role of Don and Betty’s son, Bobby, since Jared Gilmore opted to take a series-regular role on ABC’s new Once Upon a Time instead of the seven episodes Mad Men offered. Jared’s advice for his replacement: “Be careful around January [Jones]. She’s not as approachable as the others. She’s really serious about what she does. Everyone else is so nice.” [TV Guide]
There is a knock on January Jones’ trailer door. She answers. It’s Jared, her ‘Mad Men’ son.
Jared: [holding out doll] Wanna see my new Buzz Lightyear?
January: I’m not your mommy.
Jared: I know. I just want to show you Buzz! [presses button, doll says ‘To infinity and beyond!’]
January: [slams trailer door]

January assembles a salad at the craft services table. Jared approaches.
Jared: You eat a lot of salads! Is that how you stay so pretty?
January: Yes. [beat, as he smiles at her] Go the fuck away.

January sits in a director’s chair and flips through a copy of Us Weekly as the crew sets up a shot. Jared, script in hand, takes a seat next to her.
January: What.
Jared: Can I ask you about this scene? I don’t understand it.
January: Are you an idiot?
Jared: No. That’s a really not nice thing to say.
January: [lights a cigarette, takes a long drag] You’re getting too old to play my son. We’re getting rid of you.
Jared: [starts to sob]
January: See? You understand the scene just fine.
